Mountain Pine Beetle

The current mountain pine beetle (MPB) infestation in British Columbia spans more than 10 million hectares and is impacting nearly half of the recreation sites and trails in the province. To address public safety concerns related to the MPB outbreak, RSTBC is implementing a provincial MPB Mitigation Program. The first two years of the program (2007/08 and 2008/09) were funded by Natural Resources Canada under the Federal Mountain Pine Beetle Program. A total of 290 recreation sites and 20 trails were treated under the program, and over 48,000 hazardous trees were removed.
