The Tsilhqotin Nation has declared that recreation sites within the title area remain open for visitors, and that activities such as canoeing, hiking and light camping are encouraged in the area. All visitors must adhere to the Visitor Protocol (http://xeni.ca/Home/VisitorProtocols/tabid/68/Default.aspx) and Nemiah Declaration (http://www.tsilhqotin.ca/PDFs/Nemiah_Declaration.pdf). In addition to being available online, both documents can be viewed at the welcoming signs into the Xeni Gwetin caretaker area. Hunting for all species is not permitted within the title area, however fishing remains open to visitors with a valid BC freshwater fishing license. For further information please contact the Tsilhqotin National Government (www.tsilhqotin.ca). Chaunigan Lake Recreation Site provides scenic views of the Coast Mountains in the distance, including Mount Tatlow (Tsyl-os). The lake is a popular destination for fishing and back-country enthusiasts. Rainbow trout in the 1.5 to 2 pound size are said to be fairly plentiful in the lake.
