  • Site Description: The Red Mountain Trail and Cabin is located in the mountains near the community of Penny, adjacent to the Fraser River and the Rocky Mountain Trench. The cabin has a rich history, being constructed and maintained by residents of Penny starting in the 1960s. The cabin is accessed by a 12.5 km trail starting from the community of Penny which winds through various forest types (including old growth cedar) and emerges at the cabin in a subalpine area. This area is extremely popular amongst backcountry skiers and summer hikers. Overnight use of the cabin is strictly based on a reservation system; please visit the PGBRS website for bookings (https://www.pgbrs.org/red-cabin-booking-form/)

  • Driving Directions: Travel 16.5kms east of Prince George and turn left on to the Upper Fraser Road. Continue until you reach the single lane bridge over the Fraser River. After the bridge, turn right and follow the Sinclair Road until you reach the community of Penny. The main trailhead is located across from the post office. During summer, users may be able to access the trail from the Fraser Flats FSR, which bisects the trail around the 4km mark.
