Description And Directions
Site Description:
The Bridge Lake Ice Caves trail network consists of a 2 km low mobility trail loop through the forest to a couple of viewing platforms on an escarpment overlooking the southern shore of Bridge Lake. There are several small "caves" or holes present in the escarpment, and local historians and storytellers report that early settlers to this area would harvest ice from the depths of these caves to keep their food cold. It is not uncommon to find ice within these caves even in late summer.
Driving Directions:
From 100 Mile House, travel south on Hwy 97 for approximately 8 km and turn left/east onto Hwy 24. Travel approximately 43 km east on Hwy 24 to the parking area, located on the left-hand (north) side of Hwy 24, a short distance past High Country Road. Two totem poles grace the entrance to the parking area. Visitors are warned that this trail leads to an escarpment above Bridge Lake, and as such, there is a potential falling hazard.
