  • Site Description:Open, grassy area overlooking the channel between Brewster Lake and Gray Lake. Once the site of "the New Houses" associated with the old Camp 5 logging camp and chinese workers were housed just down the road. It is a part of the Sayward Forest Canoe Route. There are two parts to this recreation site on the east and west side of the road. The portion on the east side was developed primarily for equestrians accessing the trail towards Sayward.

  • Driving Directions:There are two ways to go: From Campbell River, head north on Highway 19 for approx. 14.5 kms turning left onto Menzies Mainline. Follow Menzies Main (gravel rd)for approx. 17kms to the junction of Gray Lake FSR. Go down Gray Lake FSR for approx. 200m and the site is on the right hand side fo the road. NOTICE: John Hart Dam access will be closed March 2015-2018. Please use alternate route via Gordon Road off Highway 19 north of Campbell River. Highway signs have been posted. (Or, head west on Highway 28 across John Hart dam and Campbell Lake & Gray Lake roads. Drive 6.3 km (10 minutes) on paved road, then 30 km (55 minutes) on gravel road. The Campbell Lake route is a little more scenic.)
